More than half (55%) of private markets firms surveyed have either launched a hybrid fund or plan to do so in the next year.
Nearly half of North American firms (46%) target these funds at retail investors, while the same share of European firms target institutional investors for hybrids.
The biggest drivers of adoption are increased fundraising potential (68%) and reduced pressure on funding cycles (56%).
Higher regulatory scrutiny (44%), liquidity management (36%) and valuation complexity (29%) are the biggest challenges in this space – with interesting nuances between buyouts and credit.
